چکیده

We propose a new method that fixes the coupling to two photons of the recently found lightest QCD resonance, the σ. This coupling provides crucial information for discriminating the yet unknown nature of this special state. Our method uses available data on the nucleon polarizabilities together with analyticity and unitarity. Taking into account all the uncertainties, our result is Γpole = 1.2± 0.4 keV. The σ → γγ Width from the Nucleon Electromagnetic Polarizabilities

The lightest QCD resonance, the σ, has been recently fixed in the ππ scattering amplitude. The nature of this state remains nowadays one of the most intriguing and difficult issues in particle physics. Its coupling to photons is crucial for discriminating its structure. We propose a new method that fixes this coupling using only available precise experimental data on the proton electromagnetic ...

Electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon and properties of the σ-meson pole contribution

The t-channel contribution to the difference of electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon, (α−β)t, can be quantitatively understood in terms of a σ-meson pole in the complex t-plane of the invariant scattering amplitude A1(s, t) with properties of the σ meson as given by the quark-level Nambu–Jona-Lasinio model (NJL). Equivalently, this quantity may be understood in terms of a cut in the ...

Electromagnetic polarizabilities and the excited states of the nucleon

The electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon are shown to be essentially composed of the nonresonant αp(E0+) = +3.2, αn(E0+) = +4.1, the t-channel α t p,n = −βt p,n = +7.6 and the resonant βp,n(P33(1232)) = +8.3 contributions (in units of 10 −4fm). The remaining deviations from the experimental data ∆αp = 1.2 ± 0.6, ∆βp = 1.2 ∓ 0.6, ∆αn = 0.8 ± 1.7 and ∆βn = 2.0 ∓ 1.8 are contributed by ...

1 99 8 Compton Scattering on the Charged Pion and the Process γγ → π 0 π 0

The Compton scattering on a charged pion and the process γγ → π 0 π 0 are studied using the dispersion relations. Unknown parameters of σ meson and a sum and a difference of the π 0 polarizabilities are found from a fit to the experimental data for γγ → π 0 π 0 process. The found parameters of the σ meson are used for the calculation of the cross section of the elastic γπ ± scattering. The anal...

Polarizability of the Nucleon and Compton Scattering

One of the central challenges of hadron physics in the regime of strong (non-perturbative) QCD is to identify the relevant degrees of freedom of the nucleon and to quantitatively explain experimental data in terms of these degrees of freedom. Among the processes studied so far Compton scattering plays a prominent role because of the well understood properties of the electromagnetic interaction....
